Global Virtual Teams self-study module
Welcome to the business reality of the 21st Century global workplace – it's mostly virtual. Competitive advantage in today’s business environment is highly dependent on a company’s ability to put together and develop high-performing virtual teams. Yet despite the technological advances, it is the human interactions that will ultimately determine the team’s success or failure.
The Global Virtual Teams self-study module is an online resource that enables users to understand the key challenges of working in virtual teams and to develop the skills required to tackle those challenges effectively.
Who can benefit?
Members and leaders of existing virtual teams as well as learners who wish to develop their virtual team participation skills.
How does it help the user?
The Global Virtual Teams self-study module enables users to:

- Craft strategies for dealing with the inherent complexities of virtual teams
- Identify best practices in terms of building trust, clarifying roles and responsibilities, communicating effectively, sharing expertise and making the best use of available technology

Users can complete all four sections of the module in one session (approximately one hour) or revisit at their convenience to complete different sections. Users can also revisit the module as often as they wish within a 12 month timescale to refresh and consolidate their learning.
How does it work?
Availability: the Global Virtual Teams self-study module can be accessed on-demand 24/7 from any computer with an internet connection.
Interactivity: the module is split into four core sections. The first section provides an overview of global virtual teams and their unique challenges and opportunities. The second analyses the functions and complexities of virtual teams, and how these can be managed. The third outlines success strategies and best practice tips for virtual teams in all their key areas of operation. Finally the fourth section is a quiz to test learning achieved and to consolidate key learning takeaways.
- ‘Six C’s’ framework: Users are provided with an intuitive framework to guide them through the process of developing virtual teamwork skills. The 6 C’s acronym represents the six key stages of effective virtual team performance: Convergence; Cooperation; Coordination; Capability; Communication; and Cultural Intelligence.
- Scenario-based learning: questions and scenarios are presented to the learner during the module to test knowledge, attitudes and response. In this way, practical learning is achieved based on incidents and scenarios that reflect the real global workplace.
- Interactive, user-friendly experience: the module incorporates voice commentary by a TMA World teamwork consultant, in addition to interactive functionality throughout the tool, to ensure learning is maximized through an engaging and enjoyable user experience.
- Global Readiness e-Portfolio: this module forms part of a series of online learning resources called the Global Readiness e-Portfolio. Users can complete other modules in the series depending on their individual learning needs, and so build the broader skills to be successful on the global stage.
